An individual monotown is a unique combination of available resources, trends and potential. Earlier management decisions, due to their uniformity, did not take such specifics into account. As a result, state support measures have not had the expected effect. The introduction of a differentiated approach to regional policy transformation can therefore be a trigger for positive change.

This book explores the complex relationship between groundwater law and the practical realities of groundwater allocation, with particular emphasis on the principles of equity and sustainable development. The author examines how formal legal frameworks interact with the everyday experiences of communities facing groundwater pollution, scarcity, and overexploitation. Drawing on detailed case studies from Australia, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, and India, the book compares groundwater governance approaches in both the Global North and the Global South. Particular attention is given to the role of local governance and community participation in addressing the limitations of state regulation of these often “invisible” water resources. The book concludes with recommendations for improving environmental law by ensuring that legal frameworks better reflect social needs and local realities. Overall, it highlights that effective groundwater governance requires not only robust legal institutions but also a deep understanding of regional environmental challenges and the importance of collective action.

This study combines the strengths of historical studies and analytical approaches on transboundary water interactions to establish an historical process perspective on transboundary waters. The study analytically separates transboundary water cooperation, water diplomacy, and their broader political setting, and analyses their interplay over a long period of time. The paper presents a detailed case study on the development and transformation of Finnish-Russian transboundary water interactions over the last 100 years, with an emphasis on Finland and its relationship with the Soviet Union/Russia after World War II.

Management interventions to increase water use efficiency in the irrigation sector of Central Asia were introduced but a scientific control instrument is still missing - The online tool WUEMoCA provides relevant irrigation performance indicators in the Aral Sea Basin from satellite data in combination with additional sources - WUEMoCA-based analysis of water security and water use efficiency showed: o 11 out of 33 provinces in the Aral Sea Basin were below the critical level to supply crop water demands for more than 5 years in 2000-2018. o Irrigation water use efficiency is very low in general (55%-60%) and scientific data hints at missing or failing water management interventions in the Amu Darya and Zarafshan basins. - WUEMoCA can strategically supplement the ongoing digitization efforts of the countries in the water sector. - By utilizing WUEMoCA-like tools, Central Asian governments and water management bodies will have new platforms for steering and assessing current and future strategic interventions in regional water management.

Цель работы – выявить влияние изменения климата и водообеспеченности на социально-экономические аспекты и общее состояние здоровья населения в Аральском районе Кызылординской области Республики Казахстан. Исследование основано на следующих показателях: демографические характеристики рождаемости, смертности (общей, младенческой, материнской), естественного прироста и ожидаемой продолжительности жизни, показатели здоровья населения, степень роста заболеваний, вызванных неблагоприятной экологией и суровым климатом в период с 2005 по 2019 г.

Цели устойчивого развития, провозглашенные ООН на период до 2030 г, включают обширный спектр задач. Цель работы-проанализировать современное состояние ЦУР 9 в рассматриваемых странах, выявить нерешенные вопросы и сформулировать первостепенные направления развития. В статье использованы методы анализа и синтеза, статистический метод в совокупности с системным и комплексными подходами. Научная новизна заключается в том, что проведен контент-анализ, проанализированы изменения по отраслям в рассматриваемых странах. Исследование показало, что достигнуты определенные шаги к технологическому прорыву, но имеются нерешенные вопросы. Эффективный менеджмент и оптимальное применение ресурсов, инновационных и цифровых технологий позволит странам достичь ЦУР 9.

This article focuses on the operationalization of the Water–Energy–Food (WEF) Nexus concept as a framework for promoting sustainable development in Central Asia. The researchers examine the application of the Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) protocol as a tool for interdisciplinary analysis of five different environmental systems across the region. The findings demonstrate that a systems-based approach helps experts identify critical trade-offs between water resource management, energy production, and soil conservation. The authors emphasize that the SIA framework is effective in addressing interdisciplinary complexity; however, it requires further development in areas related to ethics and stakeholder engagement. Overall, the study highlights that regional cooperation and the integration of scientific approaches are essential for mitigating the impacts of environmental degradation, including challenges such as the desiccation of the Aral Sea. The article therefore provides a methodological foundation for translating theoretical nexus concepts into practical strategies for natural resource management and sustainable development.
